The underpinnings for Xtremestang are purely road-track functionality. About two years ago, I had the fortune of meeting a guy at one of the local swap meets that had the complete Global West Stage III suspension kit plus several associate components valued at over 4000 bucks that he was selling for 1500 bucks! This included both tubular upper A-arms, re-enforced and boxed lower control arms, front and rear springs, Del-Alum bushings throughout, Koni shocks, plus all the Global West inner and outer tie rod ends, drag link and idler arm. Also included in the deal was a complete disc brake changeover including spindles, 11.3 rotors, new single piston rotors with pads, brake lines, Global West steering box, Global West Monte Carlo bar and export brace, plus several other items including subframe connectors and other items too numerous to mention.

The chassis was completely stripped and redone using everything obtained in the deal. The subframes were solidly welded to the front and rear frame rails. The subframes also served as a base to tie in the main hoop of the S&W Racecars rollbar to add further rigidity to the overall package. All new hard/soft brake lines are installed as are the double 3/8" fuel lines to supply the normal fuel supply in addition to the fuel for nitrous when activated. Although Shelby-style 2 1/2" drum brakes are used in the rear, future plans call for upgrade to discs....

The tire/wheel selection was a tough one. I had originally thought of going with original 15 x 7 Torque Thrust wheels and BFG T/A radials, however, since this is primarly a track car, I decided to go with a larger wheel diameter with a smaller sidewall tire for better road feel and grip. After looking at several styles of wheels (including the Edelbrock 454s, the wheel used on the Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor car), I decided on the Torque Thrust II in the 17 x 8 wheel size. Using a 5.00 inch backspacing, I was able to achieve the required wheel/tire clearance with some 1/4" wheel spacers. Tires selected were Falken 245/45ZR17 rear and 215/45ZR17 front.
