The basic elements of Xtreme's drivetrain consist of a highly modified 351W, a World Class T5 5 speed manual transmission, and a Ford 9-inch rear end. A lot of thought and planning has gone into the setup to insure maximum power while retaining a reasonable amount of reliability.

The engine is based on a new-in-the crate 1995 351W Lightning short block assembly. The engine, although new, was completely disassembled, blueprinted and balanced. The cam used is a TFS full hydraulic roller unit with .542/.563 gross lift, intake and exhaust respectively. Due to the lift/duration size, some minor flycutting of the pistons was required. The static compression ratio is calcuated at 9.8:1, which is near perfect for the street and the fact that the motor will see a bit of "nitrous duty". The heads I chose are the tried and true TFS Twisted Wedge heads that I did my own Stage III porting/polishing. The induction is handled by a Weiand Stealth intake, with a usable power band up to 7000 rpm. I have selected a Speed Demon carburetor to power Xtreme, but will decide if I will go with a Holley instead during the tuning stage. MSD components are used throughout to provide the spark including a 6Al box and the MSD Pro Billet distributor. Due to the extremely cramped quarters in the engine compartment, I am using the Hedman headers specifically designed for this conversion, however, am considering some JBA shorties with a large primary tube diameter.
