Once all the pieces had been assembled and I had finished the heads, everything was taken to Coast High Performance located in Torrance, California. The short block was completely torn down and blueprinted by checking and matching all specs to exact tolerances. The reciprocating assembly was balanced. An initial mock-up of the short block indicated a need to flycut the pistons a bit due to the cam selected, a TFS full hydraulic roller unit with 542/563 gross lift intake/exhaust. As seen in the photos, the engine was delivered back to me in long block form ready to finish. I selected a Canton track pan with special trap doors and baffles to aid the engine from oil starvation under hard cornering. The water pump is an aluminum high flow unit selected from the tried and true Summit Racing catalogue. The dampener is an all stainless steel unit made by an outfit located in Australia, known for their work in high performance Fords. All in all, a nicely assembled package that should propel Xtreme in short order.... |
